PEOPLE V. J.R.

The defendant, a Chicago Police officer, was arrested for domestic battery related to an argument with the grandfather of his children. As a result of the charges against him, the officer risked the loss of his position as a Chicago Police officer, the tarnishing of his criminal record, being accused of a crime he did not commit and lost wages as a result of the arrest. During a 2 day bench trial, attorney Purav Bhatt established through careful preparation and questioning that the complainant was the true aggressor and that Officer J.R. was simply defending himself against an attack. Officer J.R. was found not guilty on all battery charges and domestic violence charges.
