UUW gun charges 720 ILCS 5/24-1
A man in the South Austin neighborhood will not be charged for firing back at two men who attempted to rob him because of his conceal and carry permit.
The South Austin resident was entering his home when two individuals confronted him. One of the assailants brandished a handgun and pointed it at the man. In return, the South Austin resident pulled out his own gun and fired rounds at the would-be robbers.
No one was killed or injured and no property damage was reported during the incident. Police determined the Austin man was firing in self-defense after he presented the police with a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification Card (FOID) and a valid conceal and carry permit.
The police decided not to file charges against the Austin resident. The two assailants are being sought by police and face charges.
