New Illinois law to tackle gang leaders
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office is taking a new approach to going after gun crime by utilizing a new anti-racketeering law. This new law will allow law enforcement to go after gang leaders and other high level gang members.
Prosecutors in Cook County are working with Chicago Police and the FBI to bring indictments against dozens of gang leaders. The basis for this indictment? That these gang members received over $11 million annually through their drug trades and have been involved or responsible for the murders of at least seven individuals over the years.
The Cook County Prosecutor’s Office is also combining the sex crimes and domestic violence divisions to better handle cases such as child pornography.
