Charge: Unlawful Use of the Weapon by a felon (720 ILCS 5/24-1.1)
Defendant was charged with UUW by a felon in 2003. Defendant never appeared in court and a no bail warrant was issued. In 2016, A.A. returned and Attorney Purav Bhatt successfully argue for the warrant to be quashed. Attorney Bhatt also argued that the State of Illinois could have tried A.A. in his absence but failed to do so, thereby violating A.A’s due process rights. Prosecutors dismissed all counts against A.A.
