PEOPLE V J.S.

J.S. was pulled over on the highway for following too closely in violation of 625 ILCS 5/11-710. While in conversation with the police, the officer became suspicious and continued his investigation of J.S. vehicle. During the search, hundreds of oxycontin pills, as well as, over $600,000 in cash were seized by the police. J.S. was facing significant prison time in the matter. Attorney Bhatt argued against the legality of the search of the vehicle on constitutional grounds. Realizing that the search was questionable, prosecutors agreed to reduce J.S. charges to a misdemeanor offense and agreed to return a significant portion of the cash seized back to the defendant.
